Picture Day

We had very nice smiles on our faces when we went to get our pictures taken. The background on the pictures was the same as last year. Tomorrow we will have our Terry Fox Run. On Friday, we are supposed to have our first snowfall. We learned more about Rocks and Minerals and how they erode. We watched some movies about Rocks and Minerals. Magic School Bus was better than Bill Nye. This is not a consensus but majority of students think so.
Homework: Practice adding 2 digit by 1 digit or 2 digit numbers. Challenge yourself.

Ripping Paper

Today we ripped pieces of water color paper into strips. We used these for a new art project. When reading The One and Only Ivan, we were introduced to a new character named Ruby.  Ruby is a baby elephant that is so small she can stand right under Stella.  Lydia thinks that Ruby is very cute. Emily thinks that Stella is going to be a good mom for Ruby. Dylan thinks that Ivan is a little jealous of Stella because she gets to care for someone. Lucy remembers that Bob really likes Ruby and thinks she is cute. In Math we continued working with numbers by arranging in different patterns. We began looking at meters and it's relationship to number.

Ivan Says

We used computers in the morning and afternoon. In math we solved to word problems that required addition to solve. Mr. Bhachu drank tea while helping students with computer log in issues. Remembering new passwords is difficult at first. Everyone was able to send an email to Mr. Bhachu. This was the first email sent in many student's lives. Students can access their email and google programs from home. Students learned how to create a slide show on google slides and used it to start a slide show about a character from the novel we are reading.
For homework: Try logging into gmail from home.

New Student Today

Today we had a new student. We also read a book called I'm new here, which many students connected to. We became better at logging into and out of our classroom computers. All students can now log in and out of school computers as long as they remember their numbers and password. Our new student's name is Brayden. In math we did some tests for Mr. Bhachu to know how well we know addition and place value. We also worked on art from Friday. It was our picture of us saying something. In music we worked on a song that we are doing for Terry Fox.

National Assembly Day

Today we began the day with a Thank You Circle. We said thank you to others in our classroom that did something that we want to recognize. After we worked on completing new portraits of ourselves saying something. Today we had music for the first time. We learned a new song. Next we had an assembly. To end the day we began work on our Auction for next week.

Becoming Buddies

We took pictures of ourselves posing on a rock to say something about the world. We tried to think of body language and what our body might be saying in the pictures we took. After we printed the pictures in black and white and then used coloring pencils to add color to our pictures. The final step was to cut out a speech bubble and write the thing we wanted to say to the world.

We also completed our first auction. In auction we all received BB 10, and then we had to pay Mr. Bhachu BB 1 for our pencils and erasers. So we all had BB 9. We then used our BB to buy classroom jobs. It was fun. We all did lots of math in our heads. Here is the list of our classroom jobs, who bought them and how much they paid.
