Completing Uncompleted Work

Today in Circle students discovered that if you have a lower quality of life it is harder to get into private spaces. Therefore public spaces improve quality of life.  After circle we completed our Story of Sound in which we explained how sound interacts with the ear. Those who were finished helped edit or worked on computers to improve their typing and computation skills. In Math we worked with a partner to represent numbers in different ways. Then we worked independently to do the same thing.  We are excited for Evergreen Theatre to be here. Students are bringing home the hats they created for talking about Mental health.
Homework: Discuss how students solved the math problems from this week. They are below.

1.    If a creature travelled 10 cm every minute, how far would it travel in an hour? Show your work.
2.    If Tristan studies for 25 minutes every day after school, how many minutes does he study for in a week? How much is this in hours? How long would he study for in a month? Grade 3’s, show how you could use multiplication to solve this.
3.    It takes 5 seconds to shoot a basketball. How many basketballs could you shoot in a minute? Show your work.

Exploring the Story of Sound with Rubrics

Today we experimented with changing pitch with a rubber band. Students used given materials to change the length of a rubber band and to see how this changed the pitch. We discovered that if we changed the length of the rubber band it changed the pitch. If the rubber band is longer it makes a lower pitch and if it is shorter it makes a higher pitch. Today we created a rubric for our writing about The Story of Sound. In our rubric we talked about the organization of our writing. We also began our 5th Auction.
Homework: What environmental concerns do we have in Canada?

Be Nice to Each Other

Circle allowed us to share how the day was going for us with the class. We learned that some people in Alberta want Alberta to be it's own country. This helped us to understand that Alberta is a part of Canada and follows the rules of Canada. After some of us used computers to complete Seven Sacred Teachings Work and others used it to write a story about sound. Everyone used a rubric to talk about their Poster. We worked on number sense in math with the grade 2s. After lunch we read quietly while attendance was done. Then Mr. Bhachu read us a story called Lila and the Crow. We had to create a timeline for the story. Then we had gym, when we came back we worked on Squinty.
Homework: Try using Math 3 under the sea.

Timelines

Today the focus was on being able to identify important parts of a story by listing them in chronological order on a timeline. We also used a sort of timeline called a number line in Math. We are now on Chapter 4 of Squinty the Comical Pig. He finally made his way back to the pen with the help of Don the dog.
Homework: Create a timeline for the life of your family car. Get your parents to help if they can.

Thank you for Gym represented by room 72

This morning we were able to start the day with thinking of how people in our classroom help each other and by giving thanks to them. Some people needed to finish their 2020 art as the cold weather kept them from school, the rest of us worked on completing our Seven Sacred Teachings Poster. Many are now complete and looking fabulous. To finish the day we practiced representing numbers in different ways.
Homework: Share your poster with family members on Google Slides.

Finishing Our 2020 Art

As most days, we started with a circle where we made sure everyone was doing alright. After we moved on to chapter 3 of Squinty the Comical Pig after finishing our responses to chapter 2. Next we had another indoor recess and Ms. O's class joined us. Then we had our math switch. With a few minutes left till lunch we watched a movie about how the trout stole the rainbow. After lunch we read quietly until we moved into Science. We watched a Bill Nye video about hearing and sound because we all love Bill Nye. In gym we played boom city. When we came back we finished our art and continued work on our Seven Sacred Teachings poster.
Homework: Estimate how many centimeters of snow there is outside. Measure if you can with adult supervision.

Yearbooks

Seven Sacred Teachings

It is very cold today and we spent the whole day inside. In circle we talked the seven sacred teachings and communicated which one we wanted to improve. We used computers to create a poster for the teaching we chose to improve. Today we switched in Math, all the grade 3 students went to Ms. O. and all the grade 2 students came here. We worked on mental math strategies for addition. After lunch we had quiet reading and then reading groups. After music we had a body break and then worked on our Seven Sacred Teachings Art.
Homework: How much time do you generally spend getting ready for bed? What time do you start and finish? Discuss with your parents.

Ending the Week with Hearing and Sound

Like always we started with Circle. And after a long time, we got to give a thank you to someone in our class. We also shared what sounds we find pleasant and unpleasant. In this day and age, it is very hard to demonstrated to students what nails on a chalkboard sounds like. After we finished our 2020 art. If we were finished early we had time to use prodigy on computers. After snack and a body break we used google slides to create a slideshow for Hearing and Sound. And our final act for this week was to complete this blog as a class.
Homework: Practice saying the months of the year, backwards.

A New Place for our Daily Schedule

The morning started with circle where we played it by ear. Students came to understand what this phrase means. We continued working on math from yesterday and the day before. Some students have a very strong understanding of how minutes, hours, days, weeks and months connect. Other students are still learning the days of the week and the months of the year. After indoor recess, we had reading groups. Mr. Bhachu observed to see how we do reading groups now. After Reading groups we listened to the 2nd chapter of Squinty the Comical Pig. Lunch. After, we continued our 2020 art and reviewed the seven sacred teachings. This afternoon we also had gym, music and Book Exchange. Remember to dress warm for the weather for the next little while.

Bhachu's Back

Today we started with Circle where we had an opportunity to talk about our holidays. Next we worked on measuring with centimeters as well as days and months. After recess we organized our things and continued working on math problems. We started Auction writing before lunch and continued after. We are bringing our old math scribblers home as we got new ones. We had gym in the afternoon and we played a beach game where you had to get to the other side without touching poisonous water. We had to be quick because there were hungry animals in the game as well. To finish the day we auctioned off new jobs. Welcome back everyone.
