Google Meet and Google Classroom

Google Meet and Google Classroom
Dear Parents and Guardians:
In response to classes being cancelled and the need to move teaching and learning to an ongoing learning model, the Calgary Board of Education has decided to make both Google Classroom and Google Meet available to teachers and students. Both applications will be available for teacher- directed use later this week.
Both learning tools are part of the G Suite for Education suite of tools that all CBE students currently have access to. Adding Google Classroom and Google Meet will allow teachers to connect with their students both in real time and at a pace that suits student and family situations.
In consultation with their principals, teachers may use these or other tools available to them to support ongoing learning. Other tools teachers may use could include Brightspace by D2L and teacher blogs. Contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about the tools they are using.
As with all CBE G Suite for Education applications, the data and information that is shared is stored within the CBE G Suite environment and is not accessible in the public domain. Teachers and students will use only first name and last initial to identify each other. If students use these tools, they will access them using their CBE G Suite ID (username@educbe.ca). Teachers will work with their students to help them understand the risks in using online tools such as video chat.
Teachers will receive support and have opportunities to learn more about both Google Classroom and Google Meet as a way to connect with their students as we all adjust to teaching and learning from a distance.
Google Meet
Google Meet is a video conferencing application that enables teachers to host and students to join organized ‘meetings’ in real-time. Teachers can also record meetings and make the recording available to students to view later on. Teachers are able to share their screen and guide students through tasks and/or documents and websites they wish to share.
Inform | Teaching and Learning Resources
Google Classroom
Google Classroom is an online platform that enables teachers to communicate with their students as well as assign and distribute assignments and work in safe, manageable, and an appropriate way. Students are added in the ‘classroom’ using their CBE G Suite ID (username@educbe.ca).
Privacy and Consent
Students and their families received the School District Use of Personal Information document in Fall 2019 outlining how and why student data is shared at the CBE. Teachers will follow these policies and documents as they plan ongoing teaching and learning activities. If you have a concern with your child using these tools to support their learning, please contact your classroom teacher or school principal.
Sincerely,
Erin Tourigny on behalf of the Bridlewood teaching staff

Update - Please Read

Dear Grade 2 and Grade 3 Families,

We hope this message finds you healthy and safe at home.  We are thinking of you and your learning and hope you stay well over Spring Break.

We will have more information about what online learning will look like after Spring Break. In the meantime, CBE has created some learning resources you can access over the break.  You can find those resources here: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/default.aspx

This year we have been using Epic! to support student learning by giving students access to thousands of high-quality fiction and nonfiction books.  Epic! Is offering remote access to families, for FREE, through the end of the school year (June 30th).  You will receive an email, from your child’s teacher, inviting you to join.  These books will be available to your child during regular school hours each day.

Please take spring break to spend time with your families, relax, and most importantly, take care of one another.

Studentless Blog Post by Teacher

Hi Everyone,

I've spent the last couple of days cleaning up the classroom, marking your work and waiting to find out what is happening with your learning. I still don't know how things will work after spring break but I now have permission to talk to you in the mean time. So if you have anything to say or have any questions, you can email me at gsbhachu@educbe.ca. We are also now allowed to work from home so I spent this afternoon packing up all your scribblers and work to take home. I will be checking my emails regularly tomorrow and Friday and look forward to hearing from you. I hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy. Pass this message on to other people in our class if you can.

Sincerely,
Mr. Bhachu

P.S.
Homework:

BWS IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION

BWS IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION

Dear Parents & Guardians
Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone:
  • Evergreen Theater Performance:  Friday, March 13 @ 10:15 am. CANCELLED
  • Student-Led Conferences:  Thursday, March 19th & Friday, March 20thCANCELLED, booking system will not open.
  • We will still be having the Scholastic book Fair, due to the directive parents will NOT able to attend, as conferences are cancelled.

All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled.
Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time.
I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for these events, but the health of our community is our priority.
For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available.
Thank you,
Erin

A Fun Lunch with S.E. (Sound Extinction)

Today we spent much time practicing and then performing our play. In circle we discussed things we do individually to help our class run smoother. We are having some issues with some students not being as kind as they can be to each other. Hopefully we were able to resolve some of these issues. Our performance tomorrow is at 10:15, please join us if you can. Some students are bringing home consent forms for yearbook. Please fill these out so all of our students can be in our yearbook.

Homework: Tell the Sound Extinction story to your parents or an adult.
